Schloss Neuschwanstein
One of the most beautiful and well-known castles in Germany – if not all the world. Located on the border between Bavaria and Austria, it sits majestically on top of a Rock formation on the Foothills of the Alps.
This so called Fairytale-castle fits perfectly into the surreal Landscape of the Allgäu, where steep Mountain walls tower almost 1000 Meters over the extremely flat land before them, making this Terrain incredibly unique and unparalleled in the World.
To it’s left lies the Pöllatschlucht with the famous Marienbrücke arching over a Waterfall, which leads into a stream that is enclosing one side of the castle.
To it’s right lies the magnificent Alpsee as well as castle Hohenschwangau, parental home and summer residence for the Architect of Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig II.
Even tho he is generally regarded as a Fairytale-King for his crazy and miraculous Visions, he was a man of Science and Technology.
Thus Castle Neuschwanstein became a forerunner of modern living and housing conveniences.
They had running Water on all floors, central heating for the whole castle, a dining elevator and even a build-in electrical phone to communicate across the castle. Not to mention in 1886 already!
Revolutionary Steel constructions and Steam powered Machines were used in the building of this marvelous blend between Antiquity and Modernity.
